Stanton Moore, plus Drumline

Well, I went out the other night to see the Will Bernard Trio with Stanton Moore on drums. It was at a rad venue in San Francisco called the Great American Music Hall. Right off the bat Stanton established the mood for the evening. First song... Slow funk. Super laid back, signature buzz roll funk fills and a feel that just kills. Stanton Moore can groove like no other. You see his New Orleans style coming out in everything he does. His beats make your head move every time. I would go see him play anytime he is in town.

It's funny because I see him at the Namm show every year, cruising around trying out everyones drums. He gets a crowd every time. Something about a great groove player that people love. Check him out in Galactic also, if you haven't already.

ALSO... The next morning I had to head out to Livermore for a drumline show with Mission High School. It was WAY to early to be playing music, and WAY WAY WAY to cold to be "warming up" out side. It's so dumb to be warming up out side when the wind chill is near freezing, it would take a a serious amount of playing to get "warm" out there.

Anyhow, the group didn't play as well as the last two shows and it was reflected in their scores. Part of the problem was that this gym happened to be really really boomy. So, I think they were all hearing things a bit strange. Then of course the wind chill.

Two more percussion show's, next Saturday in Pleasanton and the Saturday after in Stockton. Should get better, I enhanced the drum parts today, so we'll see if that helps.

Alright, keep swingin' STEVe
