Winding down 2009... a short recap

Well, it has a been a GREAT year for drumming and music. Let's recap a bit...

MRP drums officially sponsored me. After meeting Mark Ross, the drum builder, at the Namm show in January, we started a conversation about what each of us likes in a sponsorship/relationship. We had some great talks about the business and about drums. He helped me design my first MRP kit, pick all the correct sizes for my style AND built me a great sounding kit.

I premiered the MRP Kit in Chicago opening for Chris Issak at McComick Place, the giant convention center. The kit and the band, Twisted Lister (which this year included my good friend Jason Countryman on bass) sounded killer.

After that it was non stop show's. I played more shows this year than any other. Farewell Typewriter played great clubs like, Bottom of the Hill, Cafe Du Nord, the Starry Plough, The Uptown, Hotel Utah, Great American Music Hall. Elbo Room... The list goes on. We traveled to Sacramento, Davis, Santa Cruz and Yosemite.

Jason Countryman and I also recruited Aaron Shaul to play bass with our new jazz group called Park St. Trio. This group started out playing great shows, like the Rosenblum Winery open house, twice this year. We have played at St. Georges Spirts, SNOB wine Bar and Speizekammer and other private parties. It's great to spread our jazz wings.

Speaking of... I also met Scott Amendola, a great drummer, and had the opportunity to hang out with him at his house and play drums. He has really helped me open up my jazz playing, making it more open and free.

Trip Device and Farewell Typewriter are both releasing new albums next year, recorded this year. Farewell Typewriter went up to The Hangar in Sacramento. We had a great weekend trip, partied hard and recorded some really killer songs. I also go to sing on some of these songs, as well as record keyboards, vibes and bells. That album will be released early next year. Trip Device is recoding next week, 10 new dance rock tracks. We will be licensing these new songs for movies, soundtracks, video games, TV... Then we will be printing the album for mass consumption. Should be great.

As you can see this year has been quite busy, crazy even. Then to top it all off, my partner and I are expecting our first child!!! He is due January 3rd, but as we all know he could come early or late (I think he's coming early). This is the reason you may have noticed my show schedule diminishing. I am taking the rest of December, after this coming Wednesdays show at Great American Music Hall, and most of January off in order to get to know my first child. Sorry about that, but you are going to have to deal with it.

So, 2010 is going to be a great year also, I can already tell. With FT and TD both having new albums, the shows are going to be great, the music is going to be killer, the drums sounds better than ever, and the drumming is getting better every day.

Looking forward to seeing you all at my shows in 2010. Who knows, maybe you will even get to meet my new child at a lighter jazz show.

Keep it real... STEVe
